When a family who owned a summer cabin on Twin Lakes, Rathdrum Idaho needed to update and expand their usable space, they turned to All American Contracting, LLC. to help them design a major remodel.
The views from the west-facing lakefront cabin were fantastic, but there was simply not enough space to accommodate the entire family when they were using the cabin. It was decided that as much of the original cabin should remain, and a new two-story wing would be added.
One of the challenges was the amount of land available, both for the structure to orient it to the lake shore, as well as the access road and the use of a steep approach. Everything was a squeeze between the house footprint, driveway, and property line.
The second floor needed to connect with the new bedrooms and bath, and the whole project needed to look as if it were part of the original design. The interior would retain a rustic, yet refined look that could take the wear and tear of many years and lots of little hands, so knotty alder paneling was used throughout as a low maintenance wall covering.
